The Makers of Kenya's History series tells the stories of the sons and daughters of Kenya who have made an outstanding contribution to the unfolding of her history. Although cast in the traditional historical mould, the narrative is designed to be accessible to the lay reader. Tom Mboya, the prominent politician, was gunned down in 1969 at which time he was Minister for Economic Planning and Development. The story tells how he was born the son of a sisal farm labourer and rose to become one of the architects of Kenya's struggle for independence.
