GIKUYU TRADITIONAL MUSIC AND SONGS FOR ADULT EDUCATION By John Kamenyi Wahome
John Kamenyi Wahome, the author of this book was born in Nyeri District and received his musical education at the Westminster College, Princeton, New jersey and Nyack College, New York, U.S.A. He has written several music books especially books on traditional folk songs and dances of various tribes in Kenya and a book on 'Music Learning'.
It is his strong feeling that our National Heritage in traditional music must be revived, promoted and preserved before it is totally lost and forgotten and this feeling is what prompted the writing of this book, Traditional dances of the Gikuyu People. He has written there dances in both Solfa and Staff Notations to make it easier for adults and lovers of African Music to enjoy singing and dancing to the songs.
He has also written a children's Song book and several Kikuyu Spirituals, and as a music educator, has taught Music in the Teachers Colleges for a number of years.
